Hello!
This week I'm going to go into a bit more detail about my pattern for the Kawaii Band, which was the exclusive pattern for the December 2017 Club Yumi Kit. At the time it was only available in a kit, but it's since been released as an individual pattern and is available in both printed and digital versions for your knitting enjoyment!
Kawaii is Japanese for “cute” & that’s just what this chunky, quick knit headband is! It’s made in bulky yarn that features a chunky braided cable with the option of a removeable knit bow so you can decide the level of cuteness your headwear requires.
The pattern is worked on double pointed needles (DPNs) or your favorite alternative method. It begins with a provisional cast-on (a tutorial for my favorite one is included) and a simple 20-round repeat is followed to make this squishy, double thick braided band. After grafting the ends together, you can choose to either block it and be finished or you can cast-on for the easiest knitted bow you’ve ever made!
With sizes ranging from Baby through Adult Large, this quick knit would make great last minute gifts for loved ones or for yourself. The Bow also makes for a great package or decoration if you don’t want to wear it on your head. (It’s also a great way to use up stash! Just use an appropriate needle for the yarn you would like to use & follow the instructions listed. A different size of yarn & needle will change the size of the bow, but it could be a fun way to package presents or easter baskets this year!)
